That's my go-to line for when I ask for something repeatedly and am not getting a response. It's very effective because:
- It gets a laugh every time.
- It shocks people into responding right away...and they're in good spirits, because of Reason 1.
The whole curriculum issue has made me say this line (within the house) many times over the past month or so. Seriously, that war is STILL raging on. I need a moment to vent on the personal side of the blog...which brings me to...
...The much more ominous revelation that, at the highest levels of the Archdiocese, there is a lemming mentality. I kind of always suspected it, but have seen clear, sobering evidence of it played out before my eyes. Even though they're jumping off the proverbial cliff to their deaths, these scholars/leaders simply refuse to display any semblance of independent thought. Common sense be damned! They're united in their quest to reject the obvious. And with that, they've resolutely chosen to ignore us, the parents and parishioners; the sheep whom they are supposed to lead.
Let's be clear on one thing. Where they're leading me, I have no intention of going.
Lookit, I'm no saint by any means. I drink a lot. I swear a lot. I'm rude and irreverent (e.g.: the title of this post, duh). I make a ton of mistakes each and every day and I totally own up to that. However, I'm not a pillar of the community nor am I an authority on Catholic education like the folks whom we are battling over this curriculum issue. I'll be the first to admit, I'm a little naive. However, I knew that the Archdiocese was not an infallible entity. But the degree of shadiness that they're displaying, en mass, is jarring me to the core.
And, in case you were wondering:
Hicks has contacted Archbishop Schnurr (a.k.a. the Superintendent's boss, per his recommendation) and even the Archbishop responds with the party line of "talk to the Superintendent." Seriously, Hicks has received that response from a lot of upper-level people within the Archdiocese. Uh, hello? HICKS HAS ALREADY DONE THAT. He did that weeks ago, and he's STILL getting that response.
These people just don't get it. This whole mess is way beyond the scope of just the curriculum. They dropped that ball a while back. Now, it's about doing the right thing. Sure, we want the curriculum to be readily available to parents. But now, the actions of the leaders of the Archdiocese are under our microscope. How do they responsibly handle someone like Hicks? After all, he has the gall to ask them to do something that will ultimately better their own product, per se. Is that so awful, so heinous?
No, I don't think so either.
Hicks is a smart, persistent guy who won't rest until this gets resolved. Period. We know Hicks. We know better. These folks are getting a crash course in Hicksology 101. They'll learn that they can't blow him off by passing the buck or by ignoring his emails. They'll learn that they can't scare him with empty threats. They'll learn that if they want to engage him in a battle of wills, well, sucks to be them. He'll school them.
Go Hicks.
